Rush Wisconsin Executive Director Completes FIFA Female Coach Educators’ Development Pathway Course

Rush Wisconsin Executive Director and U.S. Soccer Coach Educator, Jess Nash, was nominated by U.S. Soccer to participate in FIFA’s Female Coach Educators’ Development Pathway Course, joining 14 other coach educators from federations around the world in Lisbon, Portugal.

The international course gathered coach educators and FIFA Technical Experts and staff, representing 17 federations from across the globe. The initiative is part of FIFA’s ongoing effort to strengthen the network of female coach educators worldwide and support the continued growth of the women’s game.

“The environment the FIFA staff created was incredible,” said Nash. “Throughout the week, we facilitated and participated in field sessions, theory sessions in the classroom, and feedback sessions focused on improving our overall course delivery. We also explored adult learning and teaching principles that will strengthen how we educate and support coaches in our own environments.”

The course combined e-learning and online collaboration in September with an intensive in-person week at the Portugal Football Federation in October. Sessions focused on facilitation, leadership, and effective learning design, helping participants enhance how they develop coaches and create positive learning environments.

Nash, who also serves as a U.S. Soccer Coach Educator for Grassroots and D License courses, described the experience as “transformative both personally and professionally.”

“It was an enriching space where each of us could be authentic, take risks, and learn from one another. I left feeling inspired and grateful to have shared the week with such remarkable women — some who have been leading in their federations for decades, and others who are the first female coach educators in their country.”

Nash’s participation in this global program reflects Rush Wisconsin’s ongoing commitment to coach development and education. The knowledge and experiences gained through this opportunity will continue to strengthen the club’s efforts to provide exceptional learning environments for players and coaches alike.

Rush Players Lead the Charge Against Food Insecurity in Dane County

A remarkable student-led initiative is making waves across Dane County, with several current Rush Wisconsin players among its founding leaders. Middleton Meals Matter was launched by a dedicated group of students at Middleton High School—including Brooke Lister, Beatrice Norman, Nebil Siraj, and Noah Duckett—with a shared mission to tackle food insecurity in their community.

What began as a summer food drive in July 2024 has evolved into a thriving youth-led organization that has collected over 32,500 pounds of food and raised more than $20,000 for WayForward Resources, the local food pantry. By harnessing the power of social media and connecting with local leaders, the group has organized monthly food drives at grocery stores and inspired widespread community involvement.

Their impact doesn’t stop there. Middleton Meals Matter actively promotes youth volunteerism through presentations at local schools and by creating accessible opportunities for students to get involved in service. The organization recently expanded into a broader effort— Meals Matter —with new chapters launched at Vel Phillips Memorial and Madison West High School.

“To see our athletes recognize a problem in their community and take action to solve it is incredibly impressive,” said Executive Director Jess Nash. “At Rush, we strive to develop athletes who are not only active for life but also engaged citizens. Watching these players lead such meaningful work—and expand their impact beyond their own community—is truly inspiring. We are so proud of their leadership.”

Community members are encouraged to support the organization through monetary donations, monthly food drive contributions, or by giving directly to their own local food pantries. A drop off bin will be available at the Rush Community Game Night on April 21st from 6-7pm between Field 1 and Field 2 at HWY Q Rush Fields.

M adison Area Sports Commission Awards $500 Youth Grant to Rush Wisconsin

Madison, WI – April, 4th, 2024

The Madison Area Sports Commission (MASC) has announced that Rush Wisconsin, a prominent soccer club in Dane County, has been selected as a recipient of the MASC Youth Grant. The grant, totaling $500, will support the organization’s efforts in providing scholarships for Coaching Education Courses as part of its Emerging Coach Program for High School Girls.

“We are thrilled to receive this generous grant from the Madison Area Sports Commission,” said Jess Nash, Executive Director of Rush Wisconsin. “This funding will enable us to further invest in the development of young coaches and empower them to make a positive impact in our community.”

The Emerging Coach Program, an initiative of Rush Wisconsin, aims to identify and nurture promising young female coaches, providing them with mentorship, training, and resources to excel in their roles. Through this program, participants gain valuable experience working with youth athletes, honing their coaching skills under the guidance of seasoned professionals.

“Our Emerging Coach Program embodies our commitment to fostering the next generation of soccer leaders,” said Nash. “By investing in the development of young coaches, we not only enhance the quality of instruction for our players but also create pathways for future female coaching talent in our community.”

Logan and Tyler Travels to Germany with Rush Select

Logan and Tyler, Rush 2009 Boys players, traveled with Rush Select to Germany this Spring. Learn about their experience below!

Logan shared, “Germany was a great experience. It offered me a new perspective on the German soccer culture. The most significant difference between German youth soccer and American youth soccer is that soccer is more popular there. The German coaches and players took it seriously and were very good. We played four teams there, including TSV Milbertshofen, SpVgg Unterhaching, Bavaria Select, and 1860 Munich. The opposition was all very organized, and their team shape on the pitch stood out to me. They also had good tactics and technical skills. Their team facilities and fields were some of the best I’ve ever seen. I learned that to play against German teams, you must work hard and stay focused. I also learned you need intense, profound training and a high fitness level. My favorite thing was to play soccer against good opposition and to compete at a high level. I also liked playing with my teammates from all over the United States and making new friends.” Logan added, “My Grandfather (Opa) is from Germany, and I’ve always dreamed of one day playing in the Bundesliga and playing against great players. I want to thank Rush Select for this great opportunity and for allowing players like myself to fulfill those dreams.”

Tyler commented, “Traveling overseas with the Rush National Team was a dream. When I got to Germany, I had no idea what to expect. Germany is a beautiful place with many tourist attractions. I enjoyed visiting downtown Munich as well as adventuring to Neuschwanstein Castle. Well, in Germany, I could play lots of great soccer. The team had four highly competitive games and training on the off days. The competition from the German teams was incredible. Learning how to compete against their very technical style was amazing and has taught me many things to put into my game. Soccer was my favorite part of the trip, but I also loved visiting Allianz Arena and watching a professional match between FC Augsburg and FC Koln. The travel experience with Rush was awesome, and I hope to have more opportunities like this in the future.”

TOCA Rush Summer Camp

Rush Wisconsin / TOCA Soccer Camp – 2023

This year we are offering a one-week day camp to the area’s serious soccer players through a
collaboration between Rush Wisconsin and TOCA Madison. This camp will offer girls and boys
age 10-18 an opportunity to train with top-level coaches and benefit from TOCA’s training
technology. The camp will run August 7-11, 2023, from 8:30-4:30 pm at TOCA Madison,
located in Fitchburg, WI.
CAMP OBJECTIVES: Provide area youth soccer players with access to cutting-edge technology
and top-level international and local coaching to develop their elite soccer skills.
Each day will include training sessions led by Johneen Black, a premier professional coach for
Larne FC in Northern Ireland. Larne FC is one of the top clubs in Ireland, competing in the
European Cup and enjoying incredible success. Rush Wisconsin’s Roy Patton will join Johneen
Black in conducting training sessions, along with other top coaches from Rush Wisconsin.
Among Coach Patton’s accolades as a player and a coach, he served many years as a head
coach in Division 1 NCAA soccer and serves as Rush Wisconsin’s Director of Coaching.
In addition to training and instruction, athletes will receive two TOCA sessions per day, which
is a unique technology-driven soccer training focused on skills, fundamentals, and game-like
simulations. Athletes will also utilize recordings to discuss tactics and elements of play with
skilled coaches. The camp will offer feedback and correction through visual and on-hand
coaching, making this a unique, fun, and highly productive week for the serious soccer player.

Each day, athletes can expect:
– Indoor training with Johneen Black, Larne FC and Roy Patton, Rush Wisconsin
– Fully supervised breaks
– TOCA sessions — technology-driven trainings — led by skilled coaches
– Video presentations and analysis to discuss tactics and elements of play
– Indoor competition to conclude each day
– Camp evaluation by a skilled coach
– Each athlete will receive a Rush – TOCA camp t-shirt
– Sessions will be held indoors at the TOCA Madison facility in Fitchburg, WI
Camp costs: $485 per athlete, five days 8:30 – 4:30 pm

New Executive Director

It is with incredible excitement that the Rush Wisconsin Board of Directors is able to announce the appointment our new Executive Director, Jess Nash. On March 20th, the board unanimously accepted Jess’ candidacy for the position and look forward to working with her to continue our clubs commitment to excellence and as a premier destination for competitive players in the Madison area. Jess is no stranger to Rush Wisconsin as she has previously worked with the club in a coaching and leadership capacity.” Board President, Brent Ziegler, announced.

Nash brings a wealth of experience in sports and higher education. She has been working in the field of sports and higher education for 14 years and has served Rush Wisconsin previously as Director of Coaching – Youth Academy and Director of Program Outreach. She holds US Soccer Instructor and ‘A-Youth’ coaching licenses, as well as Referee and Referee Assignor Certificates, and has coached with Rush National Select and Rush Regional Select. She was also selected to participate in the US Soccer SheChampions, WeCOACH, and Rush National mentor programs. During the last two years, Nash has also dedicated her time to raising her son.

Prior to her time in Madison, Nash served as the Age Group Coordinator for the Bettendorf Soccer Association, Referee Assignor for the Quad Cities, and worked in First Year Experience at St. Ambrose University. Prior to this, she served as Assistant Coach at Iowa Lakes Community College Women’s Soccer Program and received her master’s degree from Iowa State University. During this time she was also the head coach of the Spirit Lake High School varsity girls soccer team and coached with Northwest Iowa Soccer Club.

As a player, Nash attended Buena Vista University, where she served as team captain for her Junior and Senior years. Nash also worked as an intern for the Chicago Red Stars women’s soccer team during its inaugural season.

“Rush Wisconsin has been my home since moving to Madison, and I’m thrilled to be able to serve the club in this new capacity.

It is clear that the board, leadership team, and membership have worked together to put exciting developments forward in the next couple of years, and I’m energized to get started and build on this strong foundation.” Nash commented.

Ziegler adds, “If you know her, please reach out and congratulate her. If you don’t, she’ll be excited to meet you. Jess puts our club in a strong position for success moving forward and I feel very strongly that this is such an exciting time to be a part of this organization.”

Rush Wisconsin is proud to partner with LIFTraining to address player conditioning and physical performance in soccer. Both organizations share a holistic view of player development (mind, body and spirit) and their particular experience in soccer makes them an important resource to our families.

LIFTraining is owned by Mara and Craig Wyttenbach, both former athletes and graduates from University of Wisconsin. Additionally, Mara is on the coaching staff at Rush and was formerly a NCAA D1 (Clemson University and University of Wisconsin) and semi professional soccer player. (MYSC – Lady Blues).

The Rush coaching team will work closely with LIFTraining to provide our families with seasonal year round programming to benefit athlete development and performance.
